Over the years, I’ve noticed that choosing your getting ready space is so important. If you’re looking for that pin worthy Pinterest type of photo, here are some things to consider:
1. Does it have enough window light?
In order for me to achieve the same look that you see on my website, natural light is so important. For my couples to get the bright and airy look to their photos, I need to have ample amount of natural light and it’s especially flattering on skin tones. Although, flash is great and it can be a great alternative, it makes it hard for me to be discreet and catch the candid moments with a light popping off every few seconds.
2. Is the space big enough for everyone to fit comfortably?
Some keys points to consider when booking your space is that you need make sure there’s enough room for all the girls getting their hair & make-up done. One standard-sized hotel room is not enough space for you, your bridal party, your family members, your hair and makeup team and their equipment. Not too mention, us photographer’s will need space to photograph your wedding dress with all of your wedding details and does beautiful flatlays you see on my instagram. There should be enough space that if you choose to have a private moment with just your mom and sister when you’re putting on your wedding dress, you can do so. A lot of my brides love surprising their bridal party with doing a first look which means you need a separate room.
3. Will the space clash with my wedding design plans?
In order to have a cohesive wedding album and have your images flow beautifully and seamlessly you need to consider how your getting ready space will look in the full story of your wedding day. If you’re getting married in a sleek hotel such as Pearle Hotel & Spa than choosing one of their larger suites makes perfect sense. Be sure to pay attention to colour schemes. Neutral spaces makes it easy to work with but choosing a space with colour is great as long as it doesn’t clash with your wedding palette.
4. Logistics
I love it when my couples choose their home or a parent’s home on their wedding day. However, travel time between locations is very important to consider. Your timeline might not allow enough time for travelling if the distance is too far. Always consider that you have to build in traffic delays in the timeline. Or perhaps it means you and your bridal party might have to wake up even earlier for hair and makeup.
